I have a dead spot when accelerating.

Even in park and slowly pressing on the pedal, it hesitates.

Should I look at the carb, timing, and vacuum leaks? ?

Yeah, exactly as the sound advice above.

Check the fuel quality, baseline the timing, and check for air leaks on all the vac lines & fittings.

Once you’re satisfied you have a decent spark, good fuel & no vac leaks, you can start tuning.

Quadrajet?

Okay, if you’re happy the fuel is fine & the ignition components are providing a fat spark, then the next step is a vac leak & carb check.

The float level will need setting & that’s an excellent opportunity to check it’s condition.

Have you got a carb rebuild kit ready?

There is no carb-rebuilt kit yet.

Thanks.
