When Do You Take Your Car Out Of Storage Each Year, and when do you put it away for the season?
I’ve used this method for the last 20 years, and it works well.
May 1st is the day I put insurance back on my car to drive it.
If it's nice, I have a third car garage, so I will pull it out and clean it up the last week of April.
I email my insurance company so I get a confirmation that the insurance is back on it.
Once the insurance company said the insurance is back on, I check the air in the tires (fill if necessary), drive it to the gas station for 93 octane gas, and fill it to a half tank.
Halloween is the last day I have mine out, or I may put it away a few days before if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Before I put it away for winter, I drive the gas to almost empty and put in 93 octane gas up to a quarter tank.
I do not use stabilizer as the 93 octane gas keeps the gas pretty stabile for 6 months.
I put a cover on the car and moved it back into my garage to keep anything from hitting it in the winter.
I drive it on plastic so the cold doesn’t cause any condensation.
I have a battery tender I put on the battery, and as long as the light is green, the battery is good.
My garage is insulated enough that it never gets colder than 55 degrees.
Then I email my insurance company and tell them to put fire and theft insurance on it for the winter when it’s in storage. Then I wait until they email me back.
Because I live in the country, I ensure all the mouse traps are set, and my “bug guy” fills his feeders too.
I try to polish little things during the winter, and if we get a hot day over 60, I will start it up and move her forward and back.
