    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

rgot to take before photos - but lets just say the original shock and drum was well worn and rusted lol. Rear brakes got a rebuild with new drums shoes hardward wheel cylinders. I got the rubber flex line as well, but they were to short again. happened on the front as well, so will need to...

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

I installed new shoes on the rear. The tires on there were fubar, and the date code was 1976! Went with 295/50r15s on the back, and will likely stay with the 235/60s in the front. Went with Cooper Cobras. I think the 295 looks much nicer than the 235 on there!

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

So, someone tried to steal the car and destroy the lock cylinder and the gear that turned the ignition switch. I ordered a new center housing area from eBay and got it installed today. Hopefully, that makes more sense now, lol.

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

Oh, I guess I didn't hit send on a previous post. I meant to post this earlier this month (April 5th), but it didn't go through. Well, my FIL and I had quite an adventure in the car today, as he scared someone off who was trying to steal the firebird. The steering column and ignition...

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

I forgot to get photos, but I had a lovely afternoon of work on the bird! The used lock cylinder assembly section of the steering column came in from eBay; it tested fit everything, then was sanded down and painted. While the paint dried, I finally got the suitable bushings, so I reinstalled...

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

I am starting the parts collection for summer. I have my plan of attack in my mind, and it will take roughly three months to get it done between the spring term ending and the fall term beginning.

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

Wow, been a hot minute since I posted. Im a full time college student so time got away from me over the last term. I have been collecting parts though as I have 3 months off for summer break coming up after this spring term. Goal is to to bust out over summer and get the bird "drivable to the...

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

I can't seem to get the video to upload, but I had the first actual drive! She got her new radiator in, and air bled out from it, then took her around the block and did the maiden burnout. It definitely has some monstrous torque.

I have the book! Saved my ass on the door glass adjustment for sure.

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

So, at this point, I am unsure if my nose will be savable, as it's missing chunks of urethane. Still, I dont want the car to sit all winter with no hood, so my main goal right now is to get the fenders with some primer on them, get the back side rust protected of the fenders, and get them...

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

Well, both fenders are now mostly down to bare metal. One will need a patch, the other just has some minor pitting. Got the new core support on the car as well. Fenders just hanging there, but shes coming along.

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

I am starting the process on this fender. I'll be able to use the patch we made for the original fenders and still have less work to do on these than the others.

Finally Brave Enough To Post My 76 TA - Still Work Ahead

Man, that car is beautiful not sure why you wouldn't want to post her up! Mines is a rust bucket, lol.

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

Well, suspensions and steering are all back together. We had to ream a bit of the new center link we got as the tapers were much too small; it's like they didn't drill them all the way or something. That was fun to figure out, but all new center links, tie rods inner and outer, new idler...

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

More progress. Brake link brackets were painted and installed, then hooked the rubber lines up and into the bracket, and the old calipers were finally not hanging out in my photos. Next steps - New sway bar bushings/brackets/end links will get installed hopefully tomorrow or Tuesday, and...

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

Some nice progress. I got the new shocks in, new backing plates installed, new bearings packed and installed, new rotors, calipers pads, and rubber lines on. It's pretty awesome what a sandblaster and por 15 and some elbow grease can get done.

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

well, hindsight being 20/20 It may have been smarter to just gotten tubular control arms with pre assembled bushings and ball joints...as that was a bear to get those old ones out and new ones in...but...its done now. the control arms are like new now... new bushings and ball joints, and new...

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

Ive got the PHS documentation on it, it's a true formula w66 car. originally atoll blue. I wanted a project, and I wanted to do metal work. Sure its a lot of work, but I'm loving every minute of it. Id rather build the car then buy the car personally, and these cars are notorious for rust...

    My 1970 Formula Rebuild Project

Then I did the outer skin patch. This one was a challenge with multiple break lines and several different curves to deal with, and the original was far too rotten to make a complete template. I had to guesstimate and now will have to hang the fender on the car, make the door gap to fender...
