Hello, I'm new to your forum.

I have a 1984 Trans Am that I'm looking to install a rear hatch pull-down assembly.

Does anyone have experience installing one on a 1984 Trans Am that was never equipped that way?

I do have a remote hatch release on this vehicle, so the wiring is there for that option.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Likely the best way is to find a parts car in a yard that came with it from the factory, that way you can get all the needed parts to do the conversion.

Then find a wire diagram that shows it so you can wire it in properly.

Just because you have a remote release, I'm not so sure the pull-down wiring is included in the stock wire harness.

I added one to my Cadillac Fleetwood, which didn't come with it, and I recall it being quite a project, not just the wiring, but changing from a solid striker to the motor (some GM cars, the striker is welded in).

The pull-down was a popular option on 3rd Gen cars, so finding a donor F car shouldn't be an issue, but get everything, including the plastic interior panels; they may be different (you can always dye them to match your car).

I mentioned getting a wire diagram; the pull-downs are somewhat complex.

If I recall, they have six wires or so, with two built-in micro-switches. One switch triggers upon release and tells the motor to go up; the second switch is triggered when the latch snaps around the striker, then tells the motor to go down.

Finding the diagram shouldn't be hard, I'm pretty sure they were all the same, whether it was in an F car, a Fleetwood, Roadmaster, etc...
