I just joined and looking for some info on the Ram Air lll motor compared to the base motor.

Was anything done to the pistons or crank when you jumped up to the lll.

I know they got upgraded heads, cam, but what about the carb, distributor, intake manifold?

Thanks

I had a stage 3 formula 400 in ‘70.

The base engine in the formula that yr was 400 w 330hp stage 3 had 345 hp done w a hotter cam & higher compression heads.

There was a stage IV 400 w more hp than the newly offered 455 in the ‘69 & ‘70 GTO as an option w 370hp using an even hotter cam & the head ports were modified along w the higher compression, but I don’t believe it ever made it into a Firebird.
