I have recently purchased a 77 Trans AM 3 months ago.

I think it is the best looking car ever made.

However, she needs work.

I am trying to replace the gas tank with an aftermarket one along with a new sending unit.

I cannot figure out why the straps seem too short to install it back in the factory position.

I do have the correct sending unit as I have realized that there are at least 3 styles.

Has anyone ever been in this situation?

Thanks for any help.

@Rockinron77 do you have pictures we can see?

Thank you,

Well, here you go, the only difference that I can tell is the aftermarket fuel sending unit is a little higher than the original AC one.

When I installed the new one it seems to fit good, it touches the body on the squeak preventers and not high centered on the sending unit.

HOWEVER, the filler pipe and the straps are like 2" too short.

The jerry-rigging bolts were my attempt to make it fit but the gas cap won't even go on.

Sorry, I can't attach pictures because the file is too large!

Any suggestions on that too.
