Hi,

I own a 1983 Pontiac Firebird (Trans Am) with a 5.0 305.

When I bought the car, it has been smoking blue smoke.

It only smokes it at operating temperatures.

I don't think it's been overheated ever, it was sitting for 20 years in a barn, and is a project car.

The owner used to start it up every year or so but never drove it really.

What do I do?

Rebuild the engine.

Your burning oil.

305’s are notorious for doing that.

Valve seats are worn out and it sure didn’t help it being started only once a year for 20 years.

Keep us posted friend.

Thing is, it doesn't lose oil.

The oil is at the fill line and doesn't look sludgy or bad.

It also keeps oil pressure and normal temperatures.

If you replace the heads you're replacing the valve seats because it would be a fully rebuilt head.
