Hey guys, I am looking at an '88 GTA for a great price, with a 5.7L engine, digital dash, etc.

It runs, and electrically, things seem to work; however, it is in a neglected state.

It might not need a frame off. Still, definitely a top-to-bottom restoration including interior, paint, shocks, struts, bushings, anything rubber, brakes/rotors, tires, water pump, alternator, wires, etc, and I don't really know what's going on internally in the motor; even though it runs, it has less than 100k miles, but they are up there.

My question is, since this is my first Gen III and first GTA, is it worth it?

The only other Pontiac I owned was a '70 Firebird Formula, so no comparison.

I know the HP is weak, and I've heard people say they are not worth the hassle regarding quality.

I absolutely love the car, so I'm not doing it for a flip.

I can get it cheap and have access to good restoration mechanics/body, but in the end, this will be a big project.

I'm asking you guys to please fill me in on what I don't know, like what hidden timebombs these cars might have internally or mechanically, such as whether these motors implode early or have other "known" issues.

I don't want and can not afford a sinking ship
