I guess I'm still looking for help with this T/A: how does the wastegate work, and how do you test it?

I can't find a replacement; it has 2 vacuum lines, and I got 1 with only 1 line.
To test the wastegate, check for vacuum/boost leaks, inspect the actuator for unrestricted movement, and test its diaphragm with a hand vacuum.

Look for loss of power or whistling; if faulty, you'll likely replace the actuator, as it's a common failure point on these.

Thank you,
PTA

Where can I get one?
You will have to search Google to see who has one in stock.

They aren't cheap; we have seen them priced from $200 to $400, depending on who has them in stock.

Thank you,

When I was trying to buy an ‘80 Turbo here in England, I looked at shipping parts from TTA Performance, I think they’re in Kenosha.

They sell lots of parts, some stock & plenty of performance stuff.

What drew me to them was the offering of performance parts they’d developed & used on their own cars, with impressive results. 👍

A friend of mine who owns a turbo pace car is a member of a "club" that is all turbo owners.

They exchange repair tips, banter about used turbo parts, and all those I spoke with are die-hard knowledgeable 301 turbo gearheads.

Not sure if their little club has an official name, but they usually have their own designated area at the Trans Am Nationals every year in Dayton, Ohio.

You could try Googling and see if they are an actual organization.

You could also consider joining POCI, the Pontiac-Oakland Club International.

POCI is the national Poncho club, with members as far away as England and Australia, and I am sure there are plenty in POCI who could help answer any questions as well.
