Hello.

I'm pulling the engine out of my 79 TA.

It's a 400 that came out of a 78 model that replaced the 301 in the late 80"s.

It ran perfectly when the car was parked about five years ago.

While it's out I was going to clean it well and paint what I can. I don't really want to tear it down and rebuild it.

My question is, what should I do while I have it out?

Thank you.

While on the stand do a compression check from the spark plug.

I would take the oil pan off and clean the pickup and inspect.

I would put fresh oil in it and turn the motor till the oil starts coming out the top of the motor.

Check your rockers and pushrods for damage.

All in all, this should only cost you a couple gaskets.

What's on it for a carb.

You might want to make sure your floats arent junk from sitting especially with all the ethanol in the gas.

Check freeze plugs and make sure they arent leaking
