Hello Everybody.
I've been a forum member for quite a while. I've owned my '78 since 2017. A year or so back, I told you all my car was for sale. I didn't want to do so, and I think that came across. It also had a few issues that I wanted to take care of first. Now those issues are done. New...
Thanks for the response.
I'll be posting pictures of the engine area, trunk, and chassis as soon as I can find time to take them.
Mileage-wise, the original owner said the odometer had not rolled over.
I don't remember right now what it says.
I take that no rollover odo with a grain of...
Yup, she's going out the door and has been stored indoors since I got it in 2017.
I'm going to take it to a mechanic to ensure all is well but won't have time to do so for a couple of weeks.
Then I'll get her buffed and detailed, so she shines.
There is no rust and a fast runner...
Through some fault of my own, my 1978 has been in storage for three years with nobody occasionally starting it up and driving it around.
It ran beautifully before storage.
The storage is inside storage semi-heated. I want to pull it out of storage and get it running again. I have not yet...
I got the package from http://www.phs-online.com/.
What an excellent resource!
I'm looking at my original Build Sheet for my '1978.
What is the "TRANS AM SPECIAL PERFORMANCE PACKAGE?"
It was a $251.00 option which equates to $1,092. today.
CRAZY, how much the Am/Fm/8 track cost...
That's funny.
I have a guy here in Indy who has been hammering on me to trade his 1983 Chevy pickup for my TA.
Nice truck.
He's done everything except the paint.
I almost went for it, but Mrs. Gregbert talked me out of it.
First, let me say that I'm basing my answer only on the results of an interweb search. I did use the term "1994 Trans Am for sale."
Without the quotes, of course.
WAIT A MINUTE!
I either found the exact car you're talking about or its sibling at the below link.
If that is the exact car...
I also posed the L78/L80 question to those folks at PHS Muscle cars.
Here is their answer. "In 78, there will be a partial VIN on the block.
The Z in the VIN lets you know you have the Pontiac 400. the L80 is the Olds engine (which would have a K in the VIN)"
I just received the information packet about my car from PHS Muscle Cars.
Though I was hoping for more info, it was still well worth the $85.00 research cost I had to pay.
Thanks, PHS!
You can order a packet for your car at http://www.phs-online.com/services.htm
Though I did receive the...
Here's a link for 48 of them for sale priced anywhere between $18K to $99,980.00.
https://classiccars.com/listings/find/1979/pontiac/firebird-trans-am?ps=60
Here's a pic and link for the cheapest one at $18K.
Using the $18K car as a guide, I'd be hard-pressed to pay more than $5K - $7K for...
I've been considering selling my '78.
I really don't want to, but I'm not doing it justice.
It's in great shape, but I've left it in storage for two years without doing jack with it.
Probably be better to pass it along to somebody who could care for it.
Here are some quick photos of it...
Thanks for the reply!
2W87Z8N191286, which I believe translates to Pontiac, Trans Am (75-79), 2 door coupe, 400 c.i.d. 4-bbl carb, Norwood Plant
Where to from here?
Where can I get the original build sheet if there is such a thing?
Did you find yourself a '78?
I have one I'm thinking of parting with.
The black-on-black Smoky style as you suggest.
Mine has no T-Tops.
Here's a link to a few photos I have on Google Photos.

Let me know if you're still looking.
I'm clueless as to where to begin to learn the history of my '78 Trans Am.
For example, how do I learn how the car came from the factory?
Is there a place I can order that info?
Then, how would I go about learning the history of who has owned the car? I've had it for the past 3 years.
That's $11,600US.
It sure would be a sweet car to put together.
The finished product would be outstanding!
Me personally?
I would not buy it for that much money.
I might consider it in 2025 if I was going to keep the car and do most of the work myself.
For whatever reason, I didn't notice it said "Fire Am" and not "Trans Am." I must've just focused on the "AM" part of the equation. I don't believe the parts have been swapped in. Previous to this, I wasn't even aware of the Y81 Special Edition. Now, I will research it. Do you have any hints to...
